QuestionShort answer for Pakistan
What is BTEC International?A Pearson vocational qualification delivered by approved centres outside the UK.
How is it assessed?Mainly assignments marked by your teacher and quality-checked inside the centre.
Who decides the grades? The centre's assessors, against Pearson's published Pass, Merit and Distinction criteria.
Is every school allowed to offer it?No. A centre must be approved by Pearson for the exact qualification.

BTEC alongside other routes in Pakistan

Students in Pakistan typically compare BTEC with Matric/FSc, O-Levels, A-Levels and the IB. Cambridge O- and A-Levels are widely taught in Pakistan, so BTEC is usually weighed up as a more practical alternative. BTEC suits learners who prefer applied, project-based work to one set of final exams.

How BTEC grading works

Each unit has Pass, Merit and Distinction criteria. A Merit requires every Pass criterion to be met as well, and a Distinction requires all Merit and Pass criteria. Read how Pass, Merit and Distinction work and the command verbs that set the depth of an answer.

Universities and UCAS points

BTEC grades convert to UCAS points, and many UK universities accept BTECs for suitable courses, sometimes alongside an A-Level. Requirements are set by each university and course, so check the course page and contact admissions. See BTEC UCAS points explained and whether universities accept BTEC.

Questions to ask a school in Pakistan

  • Are you an approved Pearson centre for this qualification and size?
  • Which units will I study and when are the assignment deadlines?
  • What is the resubmission policy? Pearson allows one authorised resubmission per assignment (resubmission rules).
  • Which universities have your BTEC students gone on to?

Rules on which qualifications schools may offer vary by country, so confirm with the school and the local education authority.

For teachers marking BTEC in Pakistan

Many international centres have small teams, so consistent marking takes effort. Browse the exact criteria on the unit pages. CheckB audits submitted evidence and shows met, partly met or not met for each criterion. It is advisory only and never awards a grade. See pricing.

Always follow the official Pearson specification for your qualification and level.

Check the criteria before the IV does.

checkb.tech reads learner evidence against the official Pearson criteria and reports every criterion as met, partly met or not met — with the evidence cited. It never awards a grade; the teacher stays the assessor.
