Start Here: Assessor Orientation
Your 5-minute orientation to checkb.tech: the core advisory philosophy, how criteria evidence is checked, and the repeatable 5-stage routine for every assignment batch.
- Advisory Support, Never Automated Grades: checkb.tech evaluates criteria as Met, Partly Met, or Not Met, but the registered centre teacher remains the sole final assessor.
- Repeatable 5-Stage Cycle: Upload evidence → AI advisory check → Triage open flags → Write formative feedback → Export unalterable moderation trail.
- Deterministic & Audit-Ready: Powered by temperature-0 deterministic scanning against Pearson BTEC rubrics to create audit-proof Internal Verification (IV) packs.
Advisory AI vs. grading — the fundamental rule
Before you upload your first student submission, one principle must be clear: checkb.tech never awards grades, marks scripts, or calculates final qualifications. Under Pearson BTEC International regulations, the registered centre teacher is the sole assessor who holds legal and pedagogical responsibility for the assessment decision.
checkb.tech is an advisory evidence checker. It performs a rigorous, deterministic (temperature 0) scan of learner submissions against published Pearson BTEC criteria (Pass, Merit, and Distinction). It highlights matching passages, surfaces gaps where required command verbs or concepts are absent, and queues uncertain points for your professional judgement.
- Deterministic evidence matching (temp 0)
- Pass, Merit & Distinction criteria status chips
- Highlighted excerpt flags for triage review
- Exportable audit trails for Pearson IV / SV
- Confirms evidence validity and authentic context
- Awards official criterion achievement statuses
- Delivers formative commentary to learners
- Signs off on official Assessment Record Sheets
Core vocabulary & statuses
To navigate checkb.tech effortlessly, familiarise yourself with these four core concepts:
| Term | Visual Cue | What it means in checkb.tech |
|---|---|---|
| Met | MET | The AI found explicit, substantive student evidence matching the criterion command verb and technical scope. |
| Partly Met | PARTLY MET | Evidence touches on the topic but falls short in depth, lacks required models/theories, or only partially addresses the brief. |
| Not Met | NOT MET | No credible evidence was found matching the criterion specification in the uploaded files. |
| Flag | M1 | A specific highlighted excerpt where the AI detected an evidence deficiency or ambiguity, queued for human review. |

The 5-stage checking cycle
Every assignment batch follows a standardized, efficient five-stage cycle from initial submission to final moderation logging:
- Upload Evidence: In By Script, upload student assignment files (Word
.docxor PDF.pdf). The system supports multiple activity files per student (e.g. presentation slide decks, speaker notes, and written reports), as well as selective file replacement and resubmission re-uploads. - AI Advisory Check: The engine parses the text and evaluates evidence deterministically against the unit criteria rubric, assigning initial status chips (MET, PARTLY MET, NOT MET).
- Triage Queue: Open the Triage Queue to rapidly review all open flags across the entire batch with single-key decisions (C to confirm, X to dismiss).
- Write Feedback: Return to By Script to review resolved flags, compose BTEC-compliant formative or summative commentary, and mark scripts as completed.
- Export Trail: Open Feedback Export to download or copy the complete moderation log ready for your Internal Verifier (IV) and Pearson Standards Verifier (SV).
The workspace in 30 seconds
The checkb.tech environment is organized to keep you in flow without tab clutter:
Your first batch routine: Step-by-step
Follow this recommended sequence when setting up a brand new unit or term:
- Create your batch: Select your qualification level (e.g. Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Award or Level 3 Extended Diploma) and choose your unit (e.g. Unit 1: Exploring Business).
- Set up your Roster: Import student names and IDs using the bulk roster importer or add learners manually. See Student Database (Roster).
- Upload learner submissions: Drag and drop individual student DOCX or PDF files. You can drop files in bulk; checkb.tech matches filenames to student names automatically.
- Let the check complete: Watch the live scan status indicator. The advisory engine completes a comprehensive check in seconds.
- Clear open flags in Triage: Jump into the Triage Queue and clear flags with C and X.
- Finalise feedback & share: Add student notes, generate private Student Feedback Links, and export your verification log.
Worked orientation scenario: Unit 1 Exploring Business
Here is how checkb.tech assists a BTEC Coordinator during an authentic BTEC assignment submission:
Student: Charmi J. | Submission: 12-page business report on two contrasting organisations (a sole trader vs. a multinational public limited company).
Criterion P1 (Explain features and purposes): The AI identifies comprehensive sections covering legal structure, liability, aims, and objectives for both organisations. Status: MET.
Criterion M1 (Analyse how structure and purpose support business goals): The AI detects that while features are listed, the comparative analysis of how ownership models affect financial flexibility is brief (two sentences). Status: PARTLY MET with excerpt flagged.
Assessor Action: In Triage Queue, you read the excerpt and press C to confirm. In By Script, you add a formative note: "Good explanation of features. To meet M1, strengthen your analysis of how the PLC structure specifically facilitates capital raising compared to the sole trader."
