Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

7 criteria
A.P1Describe four different approaches to understanding human behaviour.
A.P2Describe a way in which human behaviour can be changed.
B.P3Describe how the nervous system influences behaviour.
B.P4Describe different methods to investigate biological influences on behaviour.
B.P5Describe how genetics affect behaviour, using an example.
C.P6Describe how social influences affect our behaviour.
C.P7Describe social learning theory.

Merit

7 criteria
A.M1Compare and contrast the different approaches to understanding human behaviour.
A.M2Explain a way in which human behaviour can be changed.
B.M3Explain, using relevant examples, how the nervous system influences behaviour.
B.M4Explain advantages and disadvantages of different methods of investigating biological influences on behaviour.
B.M5Explain why studies of twins and adoption are useful to investigate behaviour.
C.M6Explain how behaviour can be learnt from others, using examples.
C.M7Explain how social learning theory can explain behaviour, using examples.

Distinction

3 criteria
A.D1Evaluate the limitations and benefits of methods used in different approaches to understanding changes in human behaviour.
B.D2Evaluate how behaviour can be considered innate, using examples.
C.D3Evaluate whether behaviour can be considered learned, using examples.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

DescribeCompareExplainEvaluate
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
