Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

5 criteria
A.P1Describe the use of digital graphics and animations in identified digital products.
A.P2Describe how the design and properties of digital graphics and animations impact on the effectiveness of identified products.
B.P3Produce basic designs for digital graphics and animation to meet the client’s brief.
B.P4Identify legal and ethical factors considered when responding to the client’s brief.
C.P5Produce digital graphics and animation that make basic use of some appropriate software tools in response to a client’s brief.

Merit

3 criteria
A.M1Assess the effectiveness of digital graphics and animation in identified products.
B.M2Produce detailed and effective designs for digital graphics and animation, including an explanation of relevant legal and ethical factors, in response to a client’s brief.
C.M3Produce digital graphics and animation making use of a range of software tools to meet the identified client’s needs.

Distinction

3 criteria
A.D1Evaluate the effectiveness of the use of digital graphics and animation in identified products.
B.D2Produce comprehensive designs for digital graphics and animation, including an assessment of relevant legal and ethical factors, in response to a client’s brief.
C.D3Produce effective and optimised digital graphics and animation making use of a range of software tools to fully meet the identified client’s needs.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

EvaluateDescribeAssessProduceIdentify
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

Learning aims

  • A. Explore the use of graphics and animation in digital products
  • B.
  • C. Develop digital graphics and animation to meet a client brief

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
