Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

7 criteria
A.P1Describe the functions and sources of macronutrients and micronutrients play within the diet.
A.P2Describe the role that fluids play in the diet.
B.P3Describe the concept of energy balance.
B.P4Describe the energy demands of different sports and the nutritional considerations sports performers should make, when participating in these sports.
C.P5Identify the different ways a sports performer can record their nutritional intake.
C.P6Use nutritional intake information to analyse dietary requirements/ demands of a sports performer over a 5-day period.
C.P7Identify the key strengths and areas for development in the nutritional intake.

Merit

3 criteria
A.M1Explain how having sufficient fluid, macronutrients and micronutrient intake can have a positive impact on body function.
B.M2Explain how the sports performer can adapt their nutritional approach to meet the energy demands of their sport.
C.M3Explain the strengths of the nutritional intake and make some recommendations for improvement for a sports performer.

Distinction

3 criteria
A.D1Evaluate the role and relevance of fluid, macronutrients and micronutrients intake on the body function of a sports performer.
B.D2Evaluate the impact that meeting the energy demands a sports performer would have on their sporting performance.
C.D3Evaluate the results of the nutritional intake analysis and justify the recommendations for improvement.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

EvaluateDescribeExplainIdentifyUse
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

Learning aims

  • A.
  • B. Understand the energy demands and nutritional requirements of different sports and physical
  • C. Assess nutritional performance to meet the requirements of sport and physical activities

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
