BTEC International Level 3 Artificial Intelligence

Unit 13: Unit 13 — assessment criteria

BTEC International Level 3 Unit 13 (Unit 13) — 60 Guided Learning Hours.

Internal / Optional60 GLH11 criteria

Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

6 criteria
A.P1Describe the role of data, algorithms and program workflows in AI systems.
A.P2Describe programming techniques used to develop and maintain AI systems.
B.P3Prepare and structure data for an AI programming solution.
B.P4Develop an AI program that implements models or algorithms to solve a defined problem.
C.P5Describe the strengths and limitations of the AI program.
C.P6Describe how the AI program meets the requirements of a defined problem.

Merit

3 criteria
A.M1Explain how AI concepts and programming techniques influence the design and behaviour of AI systems.
B.M2Test and refine an AI program to improve performance and reliability.
C.M3Explain how testing results and performance metrics improved the AI program.

Distinction

2 criteria
A.D1Evaluate how programming approaches support the development of effective, reliable and maintainable AI systems.
BC.D2Evaluate the effectiveness and suitability of an AI program justifying recommendations for improvement.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

DescribePrepareDevelopExplainTestEvaluate
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
