Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

7 criteria
A.P1Explain how DC and AC electrical power is produced and controlled, for safe flight.
A.P2Explain how Direct Current and Alternating Current electrical power is distributed and converted within an aircraft under normal and emergency conditions for safe flight.
B.P3Explain the operation application and contribution to safe flight of aircraft electric motors, actuators and loading, control and warning systems.
C.P4Assemble one gyroscopic and two air data instruments safely, after investigating their operation.
C.P5Explain, using the practical findings and research, the operation of one gyroscopic and two air data instruments to help ensure safe flight
C.P6Inspect one pitot-static system and one flight instrument display safely.
C.P7Explain, using the practical inspection findings and research, the function and layout of one pitot-static system and one flight instrument display, identifying their contribution to safe flight

Merit

4 criteria
A.M1Analyse how Direct Current and Alternating Current electrical power is produced, controlled, distributed and converted under normal and emergency conditions for safe flight.
B.M2Analyse the operation, indications and application of aircraft electric motors, actuators and loading, control and warning systems, identifying the contribution made by each to safe flight.
C.M3Analyse, using practical findings from safe assembly of instruments and research, the operation of one gyroscopic and two air data instruments to help ensure safe flight.
C.M4Analyse, using findings from safe inspection of instruments and research, the function and layout of one pitot-static system and one flight instrument display, identifying their contribution to safe flight.

Distinction

3 criteria
A.D1Evaluate, using vocational and high quality written language, how Direct Current and Alternating Current electrical power is generated and distributed under normal and emergency conditions, prioritising the electrical services needed for safe flight.
B.D2Evaluate, the operation, indications and applications of aircraft electrical motors, actuators and loading, control and warning systems, analysing the contribution made by each to safe flight.
C.D3Justify, using the practical findings from safe assembly and inspection and research, the operation, function and layout of air data and gyroscopic instruments and their associated pitot-static flight instrument display systems, assessing their contribution to safe flight.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

ExplainAssembleInspectAnalyseEvaluateJustify
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
