BTEC International Level 3 Green Energy

Unit 9: Unit 9 — assessment criteria

BTEC International Level 3 Unit 9 (Unit 9) — 60 Guided Learning Hours.

Internal / Optional60 GLH11 criteria

Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

6 criteria
A.P1Interpret technical drawings for energy-related applications by correctly identifying drawing views, scale, line types and key information in title blocks and notes.
A.P2Use appropriate drawing conventions and symbols to produce a clear schematic or layout drawing for a given energy-system subject.
B.P3Demonstrate accurate 2D CAD drawing using appropriate CAD
B.P4Apply dimensions, annotations, symbols and a title block to create a complete 2D drawing suitable for communication of an energy-related layout or schematic.
C.P5Use appropriate 3D CAD model sketch constraints and features of a component relevant to an energy application.
C.P6Create a simple 3D assembly and generate a clear 2D drawing output that includes key dimensions, annotations and notes for communication.

Merit

3 criteria
A.M1Justify how drawing standards, annotation and revision control have contributed to clarity, safety and communication in energy documentation.
B.M2Explain and apply checking methods to confirm a 2D CAD drawing meets a given brief, including completeness, readability, consistency.
C.M3Explain how 3D models and associated 2D drawing output support communication, reduce errors and improve coordination in energy engineering tasks.

Distinction

2 criteria
AB.D1Evaluate completed schematic or layout drawings for consistency, accuracy of annotation, and effective symbol use, justifying decisions on presentation and checking processes.
C.D2Evaluate how alternative CAD modelling and drawing-output choices (view selection, layer strategy, annotation approach) influence clarity, buildability and error reduction for an energy-related component or layout, justifying revision changes made.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

InterpretUseDemonstrateApplyCreateJustifyExplainEvaluate
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
