Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

6 criteria
A.P1Describe how robotics and automation are used in industry and society to meet specific identified needs.
A.P2Explain the associated benefits, drawbacks and wider considerations of robotics and automation in different industries and society.
B.P3Produce a set of designs for an automated solution that meets identified requirements.
B.P4Review designs with others to identify and inform improvements.
C.P5Develop an automated solution using appropriate hardware, software and data components.
C.P6Test a hardware, software and data components to identify and resolve defects.

Merit

3 criteria
A.M1Analyse the benefits, drawbacks and wider considerations of robotics and automation and how they impact different industries and society. identified need
B.M2Refine designs in response to feedback, justifying any changes made. an identified need
C.M3Use iterative development processes to produce an automated solution that makes effective use of hardware, software and data components.

Distinction

3 criteria
A.D1Evaluate the impact of robotics and automation on different industries and society.
BC.D2Use iterative development processes to produce a highly-robust and efficient automated solution that makes effective use of hardware, software and data components.
BC.D3Evaluate the effectiveness of an automated solution.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

EvaluateDescribeExplainAnalyseUseProduceReviewRefineDevelopTest
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

Learning aims

  • A. Investigate the use of automation and robotics
  • B. Design an automated solution for an identified need
  • C. Produce an automated solution for an identified need

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
