Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

6 criteria
A.P1Describe the sport development continuum and the purpose of each level.
A.P2Describe barriers to participation for individuals from different target groups at different levels of the sport development continuum.
B.P3Describe the organisation, providers and structure of sport development.
B.P4Explain different roles in sport development and the associated roles and responsibilities.
C.P5Explain local and national sport development initiatives.
C.P6Produce a project plan for a sport development activity which is linked to a specific target group, explaining how success can be measured.

Merit

4 criteria
A.M1Compare and contrast the different levels of the sport development continuum, identifying strengths and areas for improvement.
A.M2Explain barriers to participation for individuals from different target groups at different levels of the sport development continuum.
B.M3Compare and contrast the roles and responsibilities of professionals working in different types of sport development organisations.
C.M4Analyse the effectiveness of the project plan, comparing it to existing initiatives.

Distinction

3 criteria
A.D1Evaluate the barriers to participation for individuals from different target groups at different levels of the sport development continuum, providing effective and realistic solutions.
B.D2Evaluate the roles and responsibilities of professionals working in different types of sport development organisations.
C.D3Evaluate the activities in the project plan and justify choices of activities by recommending suitable measures of success.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

EvaluateDescribeCompareExplainProduceAnalyse
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

Learning aims

  • A. Examine key concepts in sport development
  • B. Explore the key providers of sport development
  • C. Investigate sport development in practice

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
