How Is Pearson BTEC International Level 3 Business Assessed?

All units in Pearson BTEC International Level 3 Business are internally assessed. Some use a Pearson Set Assignment, where Pearson sets the task and teachers mark the learner’s work. Other units use assignments set and marked by the centre, following Pearson’s requirements for that unit.

Which units use a Pearson Set Assignment?

The current Business specification identifies Unit 2: Research and Plan a Marketing Campaign, Unit 6: Principles of Management and Unit 7: Business Decision Making as PSA units. Unit 2 is mandatory in all five sizes; Units 6 and 7 are mandatory in some sizes and optional in others.

What does internal assessment mean?

“Internal” means the centre is responsible for assessing the learner’s work. It does not mean the teacher writes every task: Pearson sets the task for PSA units. For other units, the centre prepares assignments that meet Pearson’s requirements. Teachers assess against the unit criteria and keep the records required by Pearson and the centre.

A useful teacher check

  1. Confirm the learner’s qualification and unit.
  2. Check whether the unit uses a Pearson Set Assignment.
  3. Use the current assignment and read its administration instructions.
  4. For a centre-set unit, check Pearson’s requirements before issuing the brief.
  5. Assess against the full criteria and record the decision.

Arrangements such as timing, supervision and resources can differ by unit. Read the PSA guide and the qualification overview. For official rules, use Pearson’s Issue 4 specification and its International Centre Guide to Internal Assessment.

Check the criteria before the IV does.

checkb.tech reads learner evidence against the official Pearson criteria and reports every criterion as met, partly met or not met — with the evidence cited. It never awards a grade; the teacher stays the assessor.
