Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Applied Science is a vocational science qualification for international learners. Pearson describes it as a route for learners interested in science-based industries through further study, including higher education, or graduate-entry science employment. The qualification is built around applied science learning, so teachers should use the exact specification and unit briefs when planning how theory connects to practical work.

What should teachers check first?

Begin with the learner’s exact qualification size and the current specification. Check which units are required, which are optional, and whether each unit uses a Pearson Set Assignment or a centre-set assignment. Do not assume that all units use the same assessment method. Pearson lists this as an International-only offer, first taught in September 2020; check the qualification page for current registration and certification dates.

Plan from the specification

Use the specification to map the required science knowledge, practical work, assessment criteria and assignment conditions before sequencing lessons. The official Pearson Applied Science page links to its specification and assessment materials. For the wider suite, see our Level 2 subject directory guide.

Applied Science is one of Pearson’s International Level 2 subjects alongside Art and Design, Construction, Engineering, Hospitality, Information Technology, Music, Performing Arts, Sport and Travel and Tourism.

Check the criteria before the IV does.

checkb.tech reads learner evidence against the official Pearson criteria and reports every criterion as met, partly met or not met — with the evidence cited. It never awards a grade; the teacher stays the assessor.
