Pearson Set Assignments in International Level 2 Health and Social Care
| Set-assignment unit | GLH | When it is required |
|---|---|---|
| Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development | 30 | Mandatory in all four sizes |
| Unit 2: Ensuring Healthy Living | 30 | Mandatory in Certificate, Extended Certificate and Diploma; optional in Award |
| Unit 3: Skills, Attributes and Values Required to Give Care | 60 | Mandatory in Extended Certificate and Diploma; optional in Award or Certificate |
A Pearson Set Assignment (PSA) is set by Pearson and marked by the teacher. In the International Level 2 Health and Social Care suite, the PSA units are Units 1–3. Every unit remains internally assessed; a PSA does not turn the unit into an external exam.
What changes between qualification sizes?
Unit 1 is mandatory across the Award, Certificate, Extended Certificate and Diploma. Unit 2 becomes mandatory from the Certificate upward. Unit 3 is mandatory in the Extended Certificate and Diploma but can be selected as an option in the Award or Certificate. That means the number of PSAs in the learner’s programme depends on the qualification size and, for the smaller sizes, the optional-unit choices.
What should centres do?
Use the authorised assignment for the exact unit and current series. Pearson says Set Assignments are available from June and valid until the end of August in the following year; check the current materials and the unit’s conditions before scheduling. Teachers assess the work, and centres follow the same internal assessment and quality assurance requirements that apply to the rest of the qualification.
