How Is Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Health and Social Care Assessed?
| Assessment route | Who sets it? | Who assesses it? |
|---|---|---|
| Pearson Set Assignment | Pearson | Teacher / centre |
| Other internal assignment | Centre or an authorised assignment brief | Teacher / centre |
Assessment in the Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Health and Social Care suite is internal. Some units use assignments set by Pearson; teachers assess the learner work. Other units use internal assignments that the centre plans and assesses against the specification. This is not an external written examination model.
Which units use Pearson Set Assignments?
Units 1, 2 and 3 are the Pearson Set Assignment units. They are mandatory in the Extended Certificate and Diploma. In the Award, Unit 1 is mandatory and Units 2 or 3 may be chosen as optional units. In the Certificate, Units 1 and 2 are mandatory and Unit 3 may be optional. Units 4–10 are internally assessed.
For a Pearson-set unit, teachers must use the authorised assignment for that unit; they must not write a replacement task. For other units, the specification allows centres to choose suitable assessment styles, such as investigations, case studies, projects or practical evidence, while meeting the unit requirements.
What should a teacher plan?
Map assessment dates alongside teaching order and the optional-unit combination. Check any conditions or evidence forms stated within the unit, keep assessment decisions tied to the unit criteria, and include the centre’s internal verification process. See the PSA guide, then compare the Certificate and Extended Certificate structures.
Pearson’s Issue 1 specification explains the assessment model and lists each unit’s assessment type.
