Internal verification is the centre's check that assignment briefs and assessment decisions meet Pearson's requirements and are applied consistently. It is carried out by centre staff with the right roles and subject knowledge. It helps the team spot and correct issues before results are confirmed.

What should a teacher do?

  • Use the current Pearson specification and assignment instructions.
  • Send a centre-set brief for the required check before it is issued.
  • Keep assessment records clear enough for another team member to follow.
  • Provide the work and records selected for internal verification.
  • Complete and record any actions agreed through the centre's process.

A Pearson Set Assignment is written by Pearson, so teachers follow its issued instructions rather than create a replacement brief. The centre still assesses the work and follows its normal checks on assessment decisions. For a centre-set assignment, follow Pearson's requirements for writing and checking the brief.

Is this the same as Pearson standards verification?

No. Internal verification is done within the centre. Pearson standards verification is an external check that helps confirm assessment decisions meet the expected standard. The centre remains responsible for its assessments and records.

For the formal process, use Pearson's Level 2 Business specification and International Centre Guide to Internal Assessment.

Check the criteria before the IV does.

checkb.tech reads learner evidence against the official Pearson criteria and reports every criterion as met, partly met or not met — with the evidence cited. It never awards a grade; the teacher stays the assessor.
