The Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Diploma in Business is the largest of Pearson’s four Level 2 Business qualifications. It gives business a substantial place in a learner’s study programme. Pearson describes it as the size of four International GCSEs.

What does the Diploma include?

The Diploma has 480 guided learning hours. GLH means the time learners spend in lessons or other learning guided by a teacher.

Learners complete at least 11 units. Seven are required:

  • Business Purposes
  • Business Organisations
  • Financial Forecasting for Business
  • The Marketing Plan
  • People in Organisations
  • Starting a Small Business
  • Working in Teams

Learners also complete optional units from Pearson’s list. These let centres shape some of the programme around areas such as customer relations, business online, finance, enterprise or retail. Check the specification before finalising a course plan.

How does assessment work?

All units are assessed internally. The first four required units use Pearson Set Assignments. The other required units and optional units use internal assessment arranged by the centre in line with Pearson’s guidance.

Teachers assess the learner’s work against the unit requirements. A Pearson Set Assignment is still internal assessment: Pearson sets the task, while the centre assesses the work. Read the Level 2 Business overview for the course structure and compare the Extended Certificate if your learners need a smaller programme.

What does the larger size mean for teachers?

There are more units to schedule, teach and assess than on the smaller qualifications. Build the programme around the required units, then select optional units that fit the centre’s wider plan. Check that staff have enough time to cover the unit content and assessment before the course starts.

Use Pearson’s official Level 2 Business specification to confirm the unit structure and assessment requirements.

Check the criteria before the IV does.

checkb.tech reads learner evidence against the official Pearson criteria and reports every criterion as met, partly met or not met — with the evidence cited. It never awards a grade; the teacher stays the assessor.
