Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

8 criteria
A.P1Describe the information provided and inserted on a form of tender.
A.P2Describe the contents and purpose of bills of quantities (Building Price Calculation Document).
A.P3Describe the contents and purpose of tender documents based on drawings and specifications.
B.P4Describe the information needed to calculate the cost of preliminary items for a given project.
B.P5Describe the information needed to calculate a unit rate for measured work for a trade area.
B.P6Describe the factors that would contribute to a final tender.
C.P7Calculate the cost of two separate preliminary items.
C.P8Calculate the cost of materials for a simple project utilising appropriate coverage rates and waste percentages.

Merit

4 criteria
A.M1Explain the advantages of using a form of tender and tender envelope for both the client and contractor.
A.M2Explain the advantages and disadvantages of different types of tender documentation.
B.M3Explain how the information needed to calculate unit rates and preliminary items for measured work is obtained and analysed.
C.M4Calculate unit rates, including waste percentages, for measured items from different trade areas.

Distinction

4 criteria
A.D1Evaluate the advantages and potential issues and problems if a form of tender is not used.
A.D4Justify the use of different types of tender documentation for two
B.D3Analyse the factors and considerations taken into account when converting the estimated project cost into a tender sum.
C.D4Evaluate the use of different waste percentages for similar materials in different situations when calculating unit rates.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

DescribeCalculateExplainEvaluateJustifyAnalyse
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

Learning aims

  • A. investigate types of tender documentation and how they are used
  • B. Understand the information required to produce an estimate and submit a tender
  • C. Develop skills to produce estimates

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
