Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

7 criteria
A.P1Describe the safety features of a CNC machine tool.
A.P2Compare and contrast the use of a CNC machine tool and a manual machine tool to safely manufacture a component.
B.P3Create a part program for the manufacture of a component to be made using a CNC machine tool.
B.P4Load a part program created to simulate the manufacture of a component to be made using a CNC machine tool.
B.P5Run a part program to safely manufacture a component on a CNC machine tool.
B.P6Develop a detailed plan and part program to simulate and then safely manufacture a component on a CNC machine tool.
C.P7Carry out and record checks to establish compliance and accuracy during and after the manufacture of a component using a CNC machine tool.

Merit

3 criteria
A.M1Justify the use of a CNC machine tool rather than a manual machine tool to safely, efficiently and effectively manufacture a component.
B.M2Carry out and record compliance and accuracy checks on a component manufactured using a CNC machine tool.
C.M3Produce an accurate component on a CNC machine tool safely and efficiently following a comprehensive plan, and by refining the part program during simulation and using recorded checks to adjust settings during manufacture.

Distinction

2 criteria
A.D1Sources of information
BC.D2Sources of information

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

DescribeCompareCreateLoadRunDevelopCarryJustifyProduceSources
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

Learning aims

  • A. Investigate CNC machine tools and their safe use
  • B. Develop part programs and safely manufacture components using CNC machine tools.
  • C. Check the compliance and accuracy of components manufactured using CNC machine tools.

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
