Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

8 criteria
A.P1Describe the location and operation of a single motor in a front or rear wheel drive electric vehicle.
A.P2Describe the location and operation of a multi-motor drive system used in an electric vehicle.
B.P3Identify a range of hybrid vehicle drive system layouts.
B.P4Describe the operation of three hybrid vehicle electric motor systems.
C.P5Describe an electric/hybrid vehicle transmission manufacturing and assembly
C.P6Explain equipment needed to manufacture and assembly of electric/hybrid vehicle transmissions
D.P7Explain common and specific safe working practices required in an electric/hybrid
D.P8Describe the correct personal protective equipment required when manufacturing and assembling electric/hybrid vehicle drive systems

Merit

4 criteria
A.M1Explain the similarities and differences in the location and operation of single and multi-motor drive systems.
B.M2Compare the electric motor assistance given, and the way each system provides drive, for two hybrid vehicle systems
C.M3Assess the manufacturing and assembly process for an electric/hybrid vehicle transmission in terms of the operations carried out and the equipment used
D.M4Assess the effectiveness of safety systems, protective equipment and risk management process relevant to an electric/hybrid vehicle drive system production process

Distinction

3 criteria
AB.D1Evaluate electric and hybrid vehicle drive and transmission systems in terms of
C.D2Evaluate the manufacture and assembly process for electric/hybrid vehicle transmissions, in terms of processing, efficiency in operation and potential improvements
D.D3Evaluate the effectiveness of safety practices and protocols used in an electric/hybrid drive system production and make recommendations for improvements

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

DescribeIdentifyExplainCompareAssessEvaluate
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
