Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

6 criteria
A.P1Solve given problems using routine arithmetic and geometric progression operations
A.P2Solve given problems using routine power series operations.
B.P3Solve given problems using routine matrices and determinant operations.
C.P4Solve given problems using routine complex number operations.
D.P5Solve an engineering problem using routine central tendency, dispersion and probability distribution operations.
D.P6Solve an engineering problem using routine linear regression operations.

Merit

6 criteria
A.M1Solve given problems accurately using routine and non-routine arithmetic and geometric progression operations.
A.M2Solve given problems accurately using routine and non-routine power series operations.
B.M3Solve given problems accurately using routine and non-routine matrices and determinant operations.
C.M4Solve given problems accurately using routine and non-routine complex number operations.
D.M5Solve accurately an engineering problem using routine and non-routine central tendency, dispersion and probability distribution operations, providing an explanation of the process.
D.M6Solve accurately engineering problems using routine and non-routine regression operations, providing an explanation of the process.

Distinction

3 criteria
A.D1Evaluate, using technically correct language and a logical structure, engineering problems using non-routine sequence and series operations, while solving accurately all the given problems using routine and non-routine operations.
BC.D2Evaluate, using technically correct language and a logical structure, engineering problems using non-routine matrices, determinant and complex operations, while solving accurately all the given problems using routine and non-routine operations.
D.D3Evaluate the correct synthesis and application of statistics and probability to solve engineering problems involving accurate routine and non-routine operations

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

SolveEvaluate
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
