Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

7 criteria
A.P1Explain social and technological trends of computer games.
A.P2Explain how current and emerging technologies impact computer games’ design and development.
B.P3Produce designs for a computer game that meet client requirements.
B.P4Review the designs with others to identify and inform refinements.
C.P5Produce a computer game to meet client requirements.
C.P6Test a computer game for functionality, usability, stability and performance.
C.P7Review the extent to which the computer game meets client requirements.

Merit

3 criteria
A.M1Discuss how current and emerging technologies impact on how games are designed and developed to meet the requirements of the users and the larger computer games industry. client requirements
B.M2Justify decisions made, showing how the design will fulfil its purpose and client requirements. client requirements
C.M3Optimise a computer game to meet client requirements.

Distinction

3 criteria
A.D1Evaluate the impact of current and emerging technologies on the design and development of computer games to meet the requirements of the users and the computer games industry.
BC.D2Evaluate the design and optimised computer game against client requirements.
BC.D3Demonstrate individual responsibility, creativity and effective self-management in the design, development and review of a computer game.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

EvaluateExplainDiscussDemonstrateProduceReviewJustifyTestOptimise
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

Learning aims

  • A. Investigate technologies used in computer gaming
  • B. Design a computer game to meet client requirements
  • C. Develop a computer game to meet client requirements

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
