BTEC International Level 3 Land Based Studies

Unit 29: Unit 29 — assessment criteria

BTEC International Level 3 Unit 29 (Unit 29) — 60 Guided Learning Hours.

Internal / Optional60 GLH13 criteria

Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

6 criteria
A.P1Explain the environmental conditions and the facilities needed for seed and vegetative propagation of plants
A.P2Produce simple propagation schedules for the seed and vegetative propagation of specified plants
B.P3Carry out basic seed and vegetative preparation and propagation activities for specified plants.
B.P4Carry out simple establishment of propagation material for propagated plants.
C.P5Carry out plant maintenance and aftercare activities competently for specified propagated plants.
C.P6Explain the approaches used in the weaning process and its impact on plant quality.

Merit

4 criteria
A.M1Assess the factors that affect successful propagation, producing detailed propagation schedules for the seed and vegetative propagation of specified plants
B.M2Carry out seed and vegetative propagation and establishment activities efficiently, working to the required timelines and using appropriate techniques.
C.M3Carry out plant maintenance and aftercare activities efficiently for specified propagated plants.
C.M4Assess the approaches used in the weaning process and its impact on plant quality.

Distinction

3 criteria
A.D1Analyse the factors that affect successful propagation, producing comprehensive propagation schedules for the seed and vegetative propagation of specified plants
B.D2Carry out seed and vegetative propagation and establishment activities effectively, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the techniques required for the specific plants.
C.D3Carry out effective plant maintenance and aftercare for specified propagated plants, evaluating approaches used in the weaning process.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

ExplainProduceCarryAssessAnalyse
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
