BTEC International Level 3 Marketing

Unit 18: Unit 18 — assessment criteria

BTEC International Level 3 Unit 18 (Unit 18) — 60 Guided Learning Hours.

Internal / Optional60 GLH11 criteria

Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

5 criteria
A.P1Explain market research methods used by a selected business to meet marketing objectives.
B.P2Conduct secondary market research activities for selected marketing objectives.
B.P3Conduct primary market research activities for selected marketing objectives.
C.P4Interpret findings from the market research activities undertaken, making suggestions to meet the specific marketing objectives for a business.
C.P5Present findings from the market research activities in different formats.

Merit

3 criteria
A.M1Assess the appropriateness of different market research methods in helping to meet marketing objectives and inform decision making for a business.
B.M2Analyse the reasons for the chosen market research activities in meeting the selected marketing objectives.
C.M3Analyse the findings of the market research activities using statistical techniques and comment on confidence levels, making detailed suggestions to meet the specific marketing objectives for a business.

Distinction

3 criteria
A.D1Justify the use of selected market research methods in helping to meet marketing objectives and inform supported decision making for a business.
B.D2Evaluate the effectiveness of the research, justifying changes that should be made to market research activities.
C.D3Make justified suggestions to meet the specific marketing objectives, using complex data effectively to validate findings.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

ExplainConductInterpretPresentAssessAnalyseJustifyEvaluateMake
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
