Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

11 criteria
A.P1Carry out a screening process and interpret the results for a client demonstrating methods to develop a good working relationship.
A.P2Explain the function of the muscular system and the different fibre types, identifying the location of the major muscles in the human body
A.P3Explain the acute and long-term effects of exercise on the musculoskeletal system.
B.P3Produce safe personal progressive training programme for a client.
B.P4Explain the structure and function of the cardiovascular system
B.P5Explain the acute and long-term effects of exercise on the cardiovascular system
C.P4Plan and deliver a personal training session to a client.
C.P5Demonstrate correct technique and adaptations for cardiovascular, muscular endurance, muscular strength, flexibility and functional exercises.
C.P6Review own and client’s performance from a personal training session.
C.P7Review client’s fitness levels and modify the client’s personal exercise programme to meet their requirements.
D.P8Explain different energy systems and their use in sport and exercise activities.

Merit

4 criteria
A.M1Assess the screening information for a client and provide lifestyle recommendations to improve participation in regular exercise.
B.M2Analyse the function of the cardiovascular system and the acute and long-term effect of exercise
C.M3Analyse the function of the respiratory system and the acute and long-term effect of exercise.
D.M4Assess different energy systems and their use in sport and exercise activities

Distinction

3 criteria
A.D1Evaluate how the functions of the musculoskeletal system produce effective movement and the effects of acute and long-term exercise.
BC.D2Evaluate how the cardiovascular and respiratory system work together and the adaptations they make following acute and long-term exercise.
D.D3Evaluate different energy systems and the benefits of their adaptations for use in sport and exercise activities.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

CarryExplainProducePlanDemonstrateReviewAssessAnalyseEvaluate
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

Learning aims

  • A. Examine the function of the musculoskeletal system and how it responds to
  • B. Examine the function of the cardiovascular system and how it responds to
  • C. Examine the function of the respiratory system and how it responds to exercise
  • D. Explore the different types of energy systems and how they are used in exercise

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
