Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

A.P1Explain why a chosen entrepreneur and their enterprise(s) has been successful.
A.P2Explain, using examples, why it is important for entrepreneurs to consider the risks facing an enterprise.

B.P4Discuss how a specific entrepreneur overcame barriers when setting up their enterprise.
C.P5Investigate the sources of finance for a specific enterprise opportunity.
C.P6Investigate the support available for setting up a specific enterprise.
D.P7Explain the skills needed to run an enterprise.
D.P8Outline why an entrepreneur should consider the viability of an idea.

Merit

4 criteria
A.M1Analyse how the skills and attributes of a chosen entrepreneur, and their attitude to risk, has contributed to the success of their enterprise.
B.M2Assess the importance of a specific entrepreneur’s enterprise to the economy.
C.M3Assess the competition and external factors to be considered in setting up a specific enterprise.
D.M4Assess the importance of understanding the opportunities and challenges for enterprise ideas.

B.D2Evaluate the motivation of a specific entrepreneur for setting up their enterprise, and its importance to the economy

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

EvaluateExplainAnalyseExploreDiscussAssessInvestigateJustifyOutline
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

Learning aims

  • A. Explore the nature of enterprise
  • B. Investigate the motivations for entrepreneurship
  • C. Examine the opportunities and constraints for enterprises and entrepreneurs
  • D.

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
