How Is Pearson BTEC International Level 3 Creative Media Assessed?

Pearson BTEC International Level 3 Creative Media is 100% internally assessed: the centre assesses learners’ work, and Pearson verifies standards. Some units use a Pearson Set Assignment (PSA); others are assessed through an assignment set by the centre under Pearson’s unit requirements.

Which units use Pearson Set Assignments?

  • A2: Responding to a Brief is a PSA in all four sizes.
  • B2: Personal Investigation is a PSA in the Extended Diploma.

For a PSA unit, learners must use the authorised Pearson assignment and follow its conditions. Teachers cannot write their own replacement brief. For other internally assessed units, the centre sets assignments that meet the requirements in the specification.

What should teachers check?

  1. Confirm the learner’s qualification size and assessment unit.
  2. Check whether that unit uses a PSA.
  3. Read the current assignment instructions and any supervision or timing requirements.
  4. For a centre-set unit, check the unit’s assessment guidance before issuing the brief.
  5. Assess against the published criteria and follow the centre’s verification process.

Internal assessment describes who assesses the work; a PSA describes who sets the assignment. Read the PSA explainer and the qualification overview. The rules are in Pearson’s Issue 5 specification.

Check the criteria before the IV does.

checkb.tech reads learner evidence against the official Pearson criteria and reports every criterion as met, partly met or not met — with the evidence cited. It never awards a grade; the teacher stays the assessor.
