Unit 2: Ensuring Healthy Living looks at how lifestyle choices and wider influences relate to health and wellbeing. It has 30 GLH and is assessed through a Pearson Set Assignment. It is mandatory in the Certificate, Extended Certificate and Diploma; centres may select it as an optional unit for the Award.

What does Unit 2 cover?

The learning aims cover how exercise, diet and personal hygiene can influence healthy living; influences and barriers that affect a healthy lifestyle; and ways to promote health and wellbeing. This connects individual choices with the circumstances and support that can make healthy living easier or harder.

For a teacher planning the unit, the specification sets the scope and the authorised assignment supplies the specific context. The assignment is set by Pearson, but the centre assesses the submitted work.

Where does it fit in the qualification?

Unit 1 is the only mandatory unit for the Award. Unit 2 becomes mandatory for the Certificate and the two larger sizes. In the Award, it is one of the available set assignment options; check Pearson’s structure table before confirming a learner’s programme.

See Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development, Unit 3: Skills, Attributes and Values Required to Give Care, and the qualification overview.

Official guidance

Pearson’s current Issue 1 specification identifies the unit content and qualification structure. It gives an advised assessment period of 10 hours for the set assignment; use the current assignment instructions and centre arrangements when scheduling. Read the assessment overview and consult Pearson’s Issue 1 specification and qualification page.

Check the criteria before the IV does.

checkb.tech reads learner evidence against the official Pearson criteria and reports every criterion as met, partly met or not met — with the evidence cited. It never awards a grade; the teacher stays the assessor.
