Unit 3 brings together the communication skills, care values and personal attributes involved in giving care. At 60 GLH, it is twice the size of Units 1 and 2. It is a Pearson Set Assignment unit, assessed by the centre.

What does Unit 3 cover?

Its four learning aims look at communication skills; dignity, empathy and respect; personal strengths and confidence; and reflection on personal development needs. The content connects these areas to caring relationships and sharing information with people using services, families, carers, colleagues and other professionals.

The final part considers how feedback and action planning can inform professional development. This makes the unit a bridge between understanding care practice and reflecting on the attributes needed in a care setting.

How does it fit by qualification size?

Unit 3 is optional in the Award and Certificate, where it can contribute to the required optional GLH. It is mandatory in the Extended Certificate and Diploma. Unit 1 and Unit 2 have different requirements by size; use the qualification structure table to check the whole programme.

Read Unit 1 and Unit 2, then see the full qualification overview and Pearson Set Assignment guide.

Use Pearson’s current documents

The specification gives the unit content, assessment criteria and structure; the authorised set assignment gives the task and instructions. For the official details, consult Pearson’s Issue 1 specification and current qualification page.

Check the criteria before the IV does.

checkb.tech reads learner evidence against the official Pearson criteria and reports every criterion as met, partly met or not met — with the evidence cited. It never awards a grade; the teacher stays the assessor.
