Unit 8 looks at how creative and therapeutic activities can support people using health and social care services. Learners explore activities and their benefits, relevant rules, the role of professionals, then plan and carry out an appropriate activity.
What does the unit cover?
Activities may include art, craft, gardening, music, movement, games or other options suited to an individual or group. The unit considers the needs and wishes of people using services, safety, resources and how activities can be adapted to support participation.
It also covers laws and regulations relevant to implementation, professional values such as dignity and independence, and the support professionals provide. The exact activity should be chosen in context and in line with centre requirements.
Assessment and qualification structure
This is a 60 GLH internally assessed optional unit. Pearson’s specification describes evidence across several learning aims, including planning and implementing activities. Teachers should use the current specification when setting assessment tasks.
