In Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Business, P1 is the code for one Pass-level requirement in a unit. The number helps you find it. The full wording tells you what the learner needs to show. P1 does not ask for the same thing in every unit, so always read the criterion for the unit you are teaching.

What does a code such as A.P1 mean?

The letter before the dot points to a learning aim, which is a section of the unit. The P shows that the criterion is at Pass level, and the number identifies it. For example, Pearson's Unit 14, Bookkeeping for Business, includes an A.P1 criterion about describing the purpose and importance of documents used to record financial transactions. Another unit's P1 has different wording.

How can I check a learner's P1 work?

  1. Open the specification for the right unit.
  2. Read the full P1 wording and the assignment instructions.
  3. Find the part of the learner's work that answers the requirement.
  4. Check whether the evidence covers the whole requirement, using your centre's assessment process.

Do not decide from the code alone or copy a checklist from another unit. Keep the full criterion, assignment and learner evidence together when you review the work.

Does meeting P1 mean the learner has passed the unit?

No. P1 is one criterion. The learner must meet all the required criteria for the unit result. Read what P1, M1 and D1 mean, how to check a P1 criterion and how a unit grade is decided.

For the official wording, use Pearson's BTEC International Level 2 Business specification and the current assignment instructions.

Check the criteria before the IV does.

checkb.tech reads learner evidence against the official Pearson criteria and reports every criterion as met, partly met or not met — with the evidence cited. It never awards a grade; the teacher stays the assessor.
