Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

A.P2Describe, using relevant examples, the responsibilities required for sports leadership.
B.P3Describe, using practical examples, the different leadership styles available for leading sports activities.
B.P4Plan a sports activity session commenting on the proposed leadership style.
C.P5Demonstrate basic leadership skills when leading a sports activity, identifying own strengths and areas for improvement.

Merit

4 criteria
A.M1Explain, using relevant examples, how attributes and responsibilities contribute to successful sports leadership.
B.M2Explain, using practical examples, the different leadership styles available for leading sports activities.
B.M3Plan a detailed sports activity session explaining why the proposed leadership style has been selected.
C.M4Demonstrate comprehensive leadership skills when leading a sports activity, describing own strengths and areas to improve.

Distinction

3 criteria
A.D1Analyse, using relevant examples, how attributes and responsibilities contribute to successful sports leadership.
B.D2Analyse, using practical examples, the different leadership styles needed to be a successful sports leader and plan a detailed sports activity session analysing why the proposed leadership style has been selected.
C.D3Review own leadership in sports, producing an action plan to support future development as a sports leader.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

AnalyseDescribeExplainPlanReviewDemonstrate
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

Learning aims

  • A. Understand the attributes and responsibilities associated with successful sports
  • B.
  • C. Demonstrate effective leadership in sport

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
