Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

10 criteria
A.P1Explain how the principles and production of non-ionising radiation technologies are used in medical applications.
A.P2Explain why non-ionising radiation technologies are used for diagnosis and treatment of human diseases.
A.P5Explain health and safety risks, side effects and limitations of non-ionising and ionising radiation technologies.
A.P6Explain how hospitals can employ health and safety measures when using instrumentation for the protection of patients and operators.
B.P2Accurately construct a range of circuits and record appropriate values accurately using suitable measurement devices
B.P3Explain how the principles and production of ionising radiation technologies are used in medical applications.
B.P4Explain why ionising radiation technologies are used for diagnosis and treatment of human diseases.
C.P3Explain the similarities and differences of AC and DC electrical circuits
C.P4Explain the dangers of working with electricity and its effects on human physiology
D.P5Describe the basic principles of operation of transducers, sensors and electrical measurement devices

Merit

6 criteria
A.M1Compare the principles, production and uses of different non-ionising radiation techniques used in medical applications.
B.M2Compare the principles, production and uses of different ionising radiation techniques used in medical applications.
C.M3Compare RMS and peak values of AC electricity
C.M4Discuss procedures and practices used to minimise risk when working with electricity
C.M5Compare health and safety risks, side effects and limitations of non-ionising and ionising radiation technologies used in medical applications to maximise the protection of patients and operators.
D.M5Demonstrate the correct basic principles and uses of transducers, sensors and electrical measurement devices in practical situations

Distinction

4 criteria
AB.D1Evaluate, by calculation and graphical representation, the operation of a range of circuit assemblies using measured values
C.D2Evaluate the principles of AC production and transmission for safe use in suitable applications
C.D3Discuss consequences of poor health and safety when using radiation technologies, and the prevention and safety measures employed.
D.D3Evaluate the use of transducers, sensors and measurement devices in practical situations in terms of their fitness for purpose

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

ExplainAccuratelyDescribeCompareDiscussDemonstrateEvaluate
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
