Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

C.M3Assess business performance of a sole trader by manipulating financial data and making suggestions for improving business performance

Distinction

4 criteria
A.D1Evaluate appropriate types of business finance applicable in a specific business context.
AB.D1Evaluate appropriate types of business finance applicable in a specific business context Introduction on Learner work The learner work that follows has been assessed accurately to national standards. This is one example of Pass grade achievement for Learning Aim A on an internally assessed unit. There is implied research has been carried out, and the learner should be recommended to reference their research. The learner has researched Nice and Fresh Ltd and Midwest Electrical Ltd. These are sufficiently contrasting as although they do not have different ownership, they are contrasting in terms of their scale, scope, stage of development, objectives, sectors and the services they provide. The learner has prepared a report as required by the AAB.
B.D2Evaluate the impact of different factors that impact on financial risks in a given business context.
C.D3Justify recommendations for improvements to business performance for a sole trader, arising from own preparation and interpretation of business financial data

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

ExplainPerformPrepareAnalyseAssessEvaluateJustify
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

Learning aims

  • A. Explore types of business finance available at different stages in the growth of a
  • B. Understand how financial planning tools can be used to analyse financial data and assess
  • C. Understand how financial statements for a sole trader are prepared and used

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
