Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

8 criteria
A.P1ACHIEVED. The learner has explained the different types of physical activities and their benefits. The work identifies and explains different types of physical activities available in the local area, including sport, physical recreation, outdoor activities, physical education and physical fitness. Appropriate examples have been used to explain the benefits of each activity type.
A.P2ACHIEVED. The learner has explained the reasons for providing different types of physical activities for different participant groups in the local area. The work explains social, financial, environmental and historical reasons for providing physical activities and links these to different participant groups.
B.P3AGREED. The learner explains physical health and a range of factors that can affect it. They include examples of how these factors can affect the health of an individual.
B.P4AGREED. The learner has used national physical health benchmarks and health monitoring tests to assess their own physical health. They have completed the required health screening methods and recorded their results. The learner has compared their results with normative data and national guidelines to assess their current level of physical health.
C.P5AGREED. The student explains mental health and social wellbeing and describes a range of factors that can affect them. They have provided appropriate examples and explained how these factors can have a negative impact on a person's mental health and social wellbeing.
C.P6AGREED. The student explains a range of signs and symptoms of poor mental health and has assessed their own mental health using appropriate wellbeing measures. They have used the results to provide a clear picture of their current mental health and social wellbeing.
D.P7Effectively communicate with a client to undertake health and wellbeing screening.
D.P8Feedback the results of health and wellbeing screening to a client in an effective manner, describing strengths and areas for improvement.

Merit

4 criteria
A.M1ACHIEVED. The learner has analysed how different activities benefit different participant groups in the local area. The work analyses how different activity types benefit different participant groups and compares how activities can be adapted to meet different participant needs using appropriate examples.
B.M2AGREED. The learner has analysed their own physical health by identifying strengths and areas for improvement. They have compared their results with normative data and national guidelines, explaining how these results reflect their current physical health.
C.M3AGREED. The student has analysed their own mental health by using the results of the wellbeing measures to identify personal strengths and areas for improvement. They have explained how the results reflect their current mental wellbeing, but could strengthen their
D.M4Analyse the strengths and areas for improvement, using information from the client’s health and wellbeing screening.

Distinction

4 criteria
A.D1NOT ACHIEVED. To achieve this criterion, the learner must evaluate the reasons for providing different physical activities in the local area and recommend effective ways of engaging more participants. Although the learner has analysed how different activities benefit different participant groups in the local area, the work does not evaluate the reasons for providing these activities; nor does it recommend effective ways of engaging more participants. Therefore, this criterion has not been met.
B.D2NOT AGREED. To achieve this criterion, the learner must evaluate their own physical health and justify recommendations for improving it based on the health screening and monitoring results. Although the learner has identified strengths and areas for improvement, comparing these with normative data and national guidelines, they do not fully evaluate the findings or justify their recommendations. Therefore, this criterion has not been met. It covers the requirements of the PSA by including a wellbeing summary, a reflective analysis and a SMART action plan.
BC.D2NOT AGREED. To achieve this criterion, the student needed to evaluate their current physical and mental health and make supported judgements about the potential consequences of not making improvements. Although they have identified strengths and areas for development, they do not fully evaluate the likely impact that failing to make improvements could have on their future physical and mental health.
D.D3Evaluate the health and wellbeing of a client, providing strategies to increase health status.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

AchievedAgreedEffectivelyFeedbackAnalyseNotEvaluate
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

Learning aims

  • A.
  • B. Investigate the importance of physical health
  • C. Explore mental health and social wellbeing
  • D. Undertake health and wellbeing screening and provide feedback to improve health

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
