Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

11 criteria
A.P1Y You have described the main components of a balanced diet, including carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, fibre and water, and explained their roles in supporting health and football performance.

B.M2Y You have explained how energy intake and expenditure vary across different football activities and have linked these changes appropriately to performance, recovery and training demands.
C.M3Y You have explained practical strategies that athletes can use to maintain safe and ethical nutrition practices. Your work demonstrates a good understanding of informed decision-making, anti-doping awareness, third-party tested supplements and the importance of seeking advice from qualified professionals.
D.M4Y You have produced a detailed and personalised diet and hydration plan that is clearly linked to the player's training schedule, nutritional requirements and performance goals. Appropriate food choices, hydration guidance and monitoring strategies have been included throughout the plan.

Distinction

2 criteria
AB.D1Your work explains these concepts well but does not provide the depth of analysis and supported judgement required for a Distinction.
CD.D2Although your plan is detailed and appropriate for the performer, there is limited evaluation and justification of why the selected nutritional strategies are the most effective compared with alternative approaches. You have produced a well-organised range of evidence demonstrating a good understanding of the principles of nutrition for physical performance. The work accurately applies nutritional knowledge to realistic football scenarios and clearly explains the relationship between nutrition, hydration, digestion and energy requirements. The evidence fully meets the Pass and Merit criteria for Learning Aims A and B. To achieve Distinction, greater analytical depth, comparison of different sporting situations and evidence-based justification would be required. Learner Declaration - I certify that the evidence submitted for this assignment is my own. I have clearly referenced any sources and any artificial intelligence (AI) tools used in the work. I understand that false declaration is a form of malpractice. Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

YLearnerDemonstrateProduceExplainPlanCarryReviewYourAlthough
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

Learning aims

  • A. Explore methods of working with and screening clients to improve their lifestyle
  • B. Explore principles of exercise and training to develop fitness safely in an exercise
  • C. Explore specific populations exercise requirements and contraindications to exercise
  • D. Plan and instruct clients through gym-based inductions and exercise sessions

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
