Learners develop an understanding of careers in the sport and active leisure industry, and skills, knowledge and behaviours for employment in the industry.
Assessment criteria
Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.
Pass
14 criteriaA.P1ACHIEVED. The learner has described the purpose and function of tests for different components of fitness. Appropriate fitness tests have been described for seven components of fitness, including what each test measures and how it is carried out.
A.P2Explain the scope and provision of sport and active leisure.
A.P3Explain the reasons for and barriers to participation in the sport and active leisure industry.
B.P2ACHIEVED. The learner has prepared an appropriate health screening questionnaire that includes relevant health information, informed consent and confidentiality statements.
B.P3ACHIEVED. The learner has devised appropriate health screening and fitness testing procedures, including equipment checks, test termination reasons, referral procedures and recording methods.
B.P4ACHIEVED. The learner has safely administered health screening and health monitoring testing procedures for the selected individual.
B.P5ACHIEVED. The learner has selected and safely administered six appropriate fitness tests for the selected individual and accurately recorded the results.
B.P6Explain the importance of strategies in organisations that safeguard and protect children and vulnerable adults.
C.P6ACHIEVED. The learner has interpreted fitness test results against normative data from health screening and fitness tests. Appropriate tables and graphs have been used to support the interpretation of the results.
C.P7ACHIEVED. The learner has provided clear feedback to the individual, describing the fitness test results and their implications.
C.P8Complete the application process for your chosen career in sport and active leisure.
C.P9Participate in a selection interview.
D.P1The test methods were described clearly and the use of images helped to show the equipment requirements for specific tests.
D.P10Review own strengths and areas for development in response to feedback on own performance in the recruitment activities.
Merit
7 criteriaA.M1NOT ACHIEVED. To achieve this criterion, the learner must compare appropriate fitness tests for two different components of fitness, considering validity, reliability, practicality and cultural adaptability. Although appropriate fitness tests have been described, no comparison has been made. Therefore, this criterion has not been met.
A.M2Analyse reasons for and barriers to participation in the sport and active leisure industry.
B.M2NOT ACHIEVED. To achieve this criterion, the learner must justify the design of the health screening questionnaire. Although an appropriate questionnaire has been produced, the learner has not provided a justification for its design. Therefore, this criterion has not been met.
B.M3NOT ACHIEVED. To achieve this criterion, the learner must justify the selection of fitness tests, commenting on suitability, reliability, validity and practicality. Although appropriate fitness tests have been selected and administered, the learner has not justified their selection against these factors. Therefore, this criterion has not been met. The learner has produced a structured report that addresses the requirements of the assignment brief. The report interprets health screening and fitness test results against normative data and provides clear feedback to the individual. The evidence presented is appropriate for the targeted Pass grade.
C.M4NOT ACHIEVED. To achieve this criterion, the learner must outline strengths and areas for improvement based on information from the health screening questionnaire and health monitoring tests. Although strengths and areas for improvement have been identified, they have not been sufficiently developed using information from the health screening questionnaire and health monitoring tests. Therefore, this criterion has not been met.
C.M5NOT ACHIEVED. To achieve this criterion, the learner must compare fitness test results to normative data and identify strengths and areas for improvement. Although the learner has interpreted the fitness test results against normative data, the comparisons lack sufficient detail to fully identify strengths and areas for improvement. Therefore, this criterion has not been met.
D.M5Plan personal development, reflecting on the results of the recruitment process and own performance to explain improvements.
Distinction
4 criteriaA.D1NOT ACHIEVED. To achieve this criterion, the learner must evaluate the benefits and disadvantages of fitness tests for different components of fitness in relation to the needs of different individuals. Although appropriate fitness tests have been described, the learner has not evaluated their suitability for different individuals. Therefore, this criterion has not been met. The learner has produced appropriate health screening documentation and testing procedures that address the requirements of the assignment brief. Health screening and fitness testing have been carried out safely and appropriate records have been produced. The evidence presented is appropriate for the targeted Pass grade.
B.D2Analyse the relevance of personal career choices in the sport and active leisure industry, justifying your choice.
BC.D2NOT ACHIEVED. To achieve this criterion, the learner must evaluate the health screening questionnaire, health monitoring tests and fitness test results, providing evidence-based recommendations for lifestyle improvement. Although recommendations have been provided, the learner has not fully evaluated the quality and limitations of the health screening and fitness testing process or justified the recommendations using the evidence collected. Therefore, this criterion has not been met.
CD.D3Evaluate own performance in the recruitment process drawing justified and reasoned conclusions for future personal career development.
