Assessment criteria

Pass

12 criteria
A.P1Explain the different types of research methods used in sports and exercise.
A.P2Explain the importance of different sources of information for sports and exercise research.
A.P3Explain the psychological responses to common sporting injuries.
B.P3Produce a sports and exercise research proposal.
B.P4Explain the different intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors that can increase, or reduce, the likelihood of getting injured when taking part in sport.
B.P5Explain the preventative methods that can be used to reduce sporting injuries.
C.P4Carry out research using qualitative or quantitative research methods that are appropriate for the aims.
C.P5Maintain professional and ethical research standards, applying research practice principles.
C.P6Explain the initial treatment process for a common sports injury.
C.P7Explain post injury treatment for two different common sporting injuries.
D.P6Analyse the data in relation to the original hypothesis, using appropriate techniques.
D.P7Draw and communicate conclusions in relation to the original hypothesis.

Merit

A.M2Assess how different types of sporting injuries are affected by psychological responses.
B.M2Produce a detailed sports and exercise research proposal that analyses the selected research method.
B.M3Analyse the preventative methods that can be used to reduce sporting injuries.
C.M3Carry out research, applying detailed checks for accuracy and precision in data collection.
C.M4Assess the initial treatment and post injury treatment for each sporting injury.
D.M4Evaluate information gathered, drawing and communicating reasonable and objective conclusions.
D.M5Evaluate the techniques and processes used, and their impact on the investigation, making recommendations for future research.

Distinction

4 criteria
A.D1Justify the factors that affect the physiological and psychological responses to different sports injuries.
AB.D1Produce a detailed proposal for a sports or exercise research project, justifying the selected research methods and sources of information.
BC.D2AGREED - This distinction criterion was met through a sophisticated evaluation that combined prevention and treatment strategies. The learner arrived at supported judgements, notably highlighting that the success of any rehabilitation ‘depends not only on the quality of the treatment programme but also on the athlete's commitment to following it consistently’. This insight into the interrelationship between the therapist's plan and the athlete's adherence demonstrates the depth of inquiry required for the highest grade.
CD.D2Critically analyse and synthesise information from research to draw valid conclusions that are communicated fluently.
