The Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Certificate in Health and Social Care combines two mandatory Pearson Set Assignment units with at least 180 GLH of optional study. Teachers should plan the optional units against the full specification structure and the centre’s wider learner programme.

What must learners complete?

  • Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development — 30 GLH, mandatory, Pearson Set Assignment.
  • Unit 2: Ensuring Healthy Living — 30 GLH, mandatory, Pearson Set Assignment.
  • Optional units totalling at least 180 GLH, chosen from Units 3–10.

Unit 3 is also a Pearson Set Assignment if selected. Units 4–10 use internal assessment. Pearson lists five or six units for the Certificate, depending on the valid optional combination. All units must achieve Pass or above for this size, so unit choice and delivery planning need to be checked before the programme begins.

See the suite overview, compare the Award and Extended Certificate, and read the assessment guide. Pearson’s Issue 1 specification is the authority for unit combinations.

Check the criteria before the IV does.

checkb.tech reads learner evidence against the official Pearson criteria and reports every criterion as met, partly met or not met — with the evidence cited. It never awards a grade; the teacher stays the assessor.
