The Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care makes the subject a substantial part of a learner’s programme. Pearson’s current specification lists six or seven units, with the three mandatory units accounting for one third of the total GLH.

Mandatory and optional units

  • Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development — 30 GLH.
  • Unit 2: Ensuring Healthy Living — 30 GLH.
  • Unit 3: Skills, Attributes and Values Required to Give Care — 60 GLH.
  • Optional units — at least 240 GLH from the approved options.

All three mandatory units use Pearson Set Assignments and must be achieved at Pass or above. Optional units are internally assessed. The grade rules permit only the stated tolerance for unclassified optional-unit GLH; check the current grade table before making a certification decision.

For the smaller sizes, see the Award and Certificate. The Diploma keeps the same mandatory units but requires a larger optional programme. Read the grade guide and verify unit choices in Pearson’s Issue 1 specification.

Check the criteria before the IV does.

checkb.tech reads learner evidence against the official Pearson criteria and reports every criterion as met, partly met or not met — with the evidence cited. It never awards a grade; the teacher stays the assessor.
