Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Business does not have one unit count for every learner. The number depends on the qualification size. The Award has four units; the Certificate, Extended Certificate and Diploma each require a minimum number of units.

Unit counts by qualification size

Full qualification nameUnitsGLH
Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Award in Business4120
Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Certificate in BusinessAt least 6240
Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Extended Certificate in BusinessAt least 9360
Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Diploma in BusinessAt least 11480

The words “at least” matter. For the larger sizes, Pearson sets a minimum unit count and a required mix of units. The centre selects optional units from the choices allowed for that qualification. Use the specification's structure tables to confirm the full combination.

Which units are required?

Each qualification has mandatory units, which learners must complete, and optional units, which the centre chooses from Pearson's approved list. The number of required and optional units changes by qualification size. Do not assume that a unit available in one size is included in every size.

For example, Pearson's specification lists the Award as four units, including three mandatory units. The Certificate requires at least six units; the Extended Certificate requires at least nine; and the Diploma requires at least eleven. The same specification shows which units are mandatory, optional and assessed using a Pearson Set Assignment.

Use the unit reference pages carefully

The checkb.tech Level 2 Business unit pages are a reference library for exploring units and assessment criteria. They are useful when you want to look up a unit. For the official qualification structure and unit choices, use the relevant Pearson specification.

Where to check the official unit list

Open Pearson's International Level 2 Business course page and use the current specification. In the specification, find the structure for the exact size your learners are taking. This shows the required units and the allowed optional choices.

When planning, check the full qualification title, unit number, unit title and assessment type together. This helps you avoid mixing details from a different size or from a UK BTEC course.

Check the criteria before the IV does.

checkb.tech reads learner evidence against the official Pearson criteria and reports every criterion as met, partly met or not met — with the evidence cited. It never awards a grade; the teacher stays the assessor.
