Unit 19: Unit 19 — assessment criteria

BTEC International Level 3 Unit 19 (Unit 19) — 60 Guided Learning Hours.

Internal / Optional60 GLH11 criteria

Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

5 criteria
A.P1Explain, using case study scenarios, what the legal requirements of the written statement of employment particulars and the contract of employment for a selected professional sports performer and esports player must include to comply with the law.
B.P2Explain, using case study scenarios, how compliance with regulations that govern regional, national and international regulatory bodies can help the sports and esports industries.
B.P3Explain how relevant laws and legislation can support the rights of those working in the sports and esports industries.
C.P4Explain the regulations of the registration of professional sports performers and esports players, anti-doping, the use of social media and sanctions for any breaches.
C.P5Explain the role and regulations of trade unions, support organisations and sports agents in relation to a selected professional sports performer and esports player.

Merit

3 criteria
A.M1Analyse the impact of employment rights on a selected professional sports performer and esports player, applying appropriate current law.
B.M2Analyse the support available from relevant regulatory bodies to those working in the sports and esports industries, to ensure their rights are adhered to.
C.M3Analyse the appropriate regulations for registration, antidoping, trade union, sports agents and use of social media specific to a selected professional sports performer and esports player.

Distinction

3 criteria
A.D1Evaluate the impact that employment rights in the sports industry have had on a selected professional sports performer and esports player, using decided cases and recent statutes to justify conclusions.
B.D2Evaluate the impact that support from relevant regulatory bodies has had on those working in the sports and esports industries to ensure that their rights are adhered to.
C.D3Evaluate the effectiveness of the regulations relating to anti-doping, sports agents and the use of social media for a selected professional sports performer and esports player.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

ExplainAnalyseEvaluate
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
