BTEC International Level 3 Green Energy

Unit 20: Unit 20 — assessment criteria

BTEC International Level 3 Unit 20 (Unit 20) — 60 Guided Learning Hours.

Internal / Optional60 GLH14 criteria

Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

8 criteria
A.P1Explain how water is used in energy and other related systems, including key processes and resource roles.
A.P2Describe water demand across different energy and other related technologies and the concept of the water–energy nexus.
B.P3Measure and describe water use using appropriate metrics, including withdrawal, consumption and efficiency indicators.
B.P4Identify common inefficiencies and outline strategies to reduce water use in energy systems.
C.P5Explain water conservation strategies and technologies used in energy systems.
C.P6Describe monitoring and control methods used to manage water use.
D.P7Describe lifecycle stages of water use and associated environmental impacts in energy systems.
D.P8Outline basic regulatory and sustainability considerations for water management.

Merit

4 criteria
A.M1Explain how energy system type and operating conditions influence water demand and resource use.
B.M2Explain how optimisation strategies improve water efficiency while affecting cost, performance and reliability.
C.M3Explain how conservation and treatment technologies are applied to improve water efficiency and system performance.
D.M4Explain how lifecycle impacts, regulatory requirements and sustainability considerations influence water management decisions.

Distinction

2 criteria
AB.D1Analyse an energy system by mapping water use and identifying justified optimisation strategies based on system performance and constraints.
CD.D2Evaluate water management approaches in an energy system, justifying technology selection and assessing lifecycle, environmental and operational impacts.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

ExplainDescribeMeasureIdentifyOutlineAnalyseEvaluate
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
