BTEC International Level 3 Green Energy

Unit 22: Unit 22 — assessment criteria

BTEC International Level 3 Unit 22 (Unit 22) — 60 Guided Learning Hours.

Internal / Optional60 GLH16 criteria

Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

8 criteria
A.P1Examine current local transport usage patterns, considering common journey purposes, modes used and factors influencing availability.
A.P2Explain national and international travel patterns for passengers and freight, including dominant modes and typical usage contexts.
B.P3Describe low and zero carbon transport technologies used in road and public transport systems.
B.P4Describe emerging low and zero carbon technologies applied to freight, maritime or aviation transport sectors.
C.P5Describe carbon emissions associated with internal combustion cars and commercial road vehicles under typical usage conditions.
C.P6Describe carbon emissions from shipping and aircraft, considering differences in distance, load and operational efficiency.
D.P7Explain how battery-powered transport systems operate, including energy storage, electric motors and regenerative processes.
D.P8Explain how hydrogen-powered transport systems generate usable energy and safely store and supply hydrogen fuel.

Merit

4 criteria
A.M1Analyse factors influencing transport mode choice at different scales.
B.M2Explain how low and zero carbon transport technologies reduce emissions compared with conventional internal combustion systems.
C.M3Analyse differences in carbon emissions across transport modes using usage data and efficiency comparisons.
D.M4Analyse performance and cost differences between battery, hydrogen and conventional transport systems.

Distinction

4 criteria
A.D1Evaluate how current transport usage patterns affect energy demand and carbon emissions across local, national and global contexts.
B.D2Discuss effectiveness of different low and zero carbon technologies in meeting future transport and sustainability demands.
C.D3Evaluate the relative environmental impacts of passenger and freight transport modes at national and international scales.
D.D4Assess infrastructure, economic and societal implications of transitioning to battery and hydrogen-powered transport systems.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

ExamineExplainDescribeAnalyseEvaluateDiscussAssess
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
