Assessment criteria

Reproduced verbatim from the Pearson specification — the same grid the assignment brief carries. A unit grade is the highest band where all criteria in that band (and every band below it) are met.

Pass

6 criteria
A.P1Compare three realistic opportunities for work experience in the travel and tourism industry and how each can support preparation for the workplace.
A.P2Explain the preparation for a selected work experience opportunity.
B.P3Demonstrate work-related skills to meet set objectives for work experience tasks.
B.P4Produce a logbook to record the tasks and activities carried out in the workplace to meet set objectives.
C.P5Review own strengths and areas for development in work experience.
C.P6Identify improvements to be made to own personal and professional skills in response to feedback from work experience.

Merit

3 criteria
A.M1Analyse the benefits of work experience and how it can contribute to gaining a realistic understanding of opportunities in the travel and tourism industry.
B.M2Demonstrate work-related skills with confidence and proficiency to meet objectives in different situations
C.M3Assess own performance during work experience, making recommendations for personal and professional development.

Distinction

3 criteria
A.D1Evaluate how preparing for work experience can support an understanding of the workplace and appropriate career opportunities.
B.D2Demonstrate work-related skills proficiently, taking the initiative to carry out activities according to own responsibilities and the setting’s procedures and selecting appropriate skills for different situations.
C.D3Evaluate own work experience, drawing reasoned conclusions as to how it can support a career.

Command verbs in this unit

The verb decides the depth expected — that is what separates Pass from Merit and Distinction work on the same learning aim.

CompareExplainDemonstrateProduceReviewIdentifyAnalyseAssessEvaluate
Pearson's ladder runs Identify → Describe → Explain → Compare / Analyse → Evaluate / Justify / Assess. A Merit or Distinction criterion on the same aim always implies the Pass beneath it: an “evaluate” answer that never first “explains” fails, however polished it reads. Hover a verb for what it demands.

How checkb.tech checks this unit

Upload a learner's submission and checkb.tech reads it against exactly these criteria, reporting each one as met, partly met, or not met — with the evidence that informed the verdict cited, so every call is auditable.

The check runs against the official Pearson documents for this unit, and identical evidence always produces an identical result — the same script gets the same verdict every time.

It never awards a grade. You stay the assessor: confirm, dismiss, or act on every criterion before your assessment decision is final.
