Quick answerWhat it means
Assessment typeAll Level 2 Business units are assessed internally.
Who sets the task?Pearson sets tasks for some units; the centre sets tasks for most others.
Who assesses the work? The centre assesses the learner’s work in both cases.

Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Business is assessed through assignments. Learners complete work, and their teacher checks it against the criteria for the unit. Pearson’s specification says that all units in this qualification are assessed internally.

“Internally assessed” means the centre takes responsibility for assessing the learner’s work. Pearson still sets the rules for each unit, and the centre must follow them.

Who sets the assignment?

It depends on the unit. For some units, Pearson sets the assignment. These are called Pearson Set Assignments. For most other units, the teacher or centre sets the assignment, using the unit requirements in Pearson’s specification.

In both cases, the centre assesses the work against the unit’s assessment criteria. A Pearson Set Assignment is still an internal assessment; Pearson setting the task does not mean Pearson marks it.

What does the teacher check?

The teacher compares the learner’s evidence with the exact criteria listed for that unit. The assignment instructions explain what the learner needs to do and what evidence they need to produce. Check the unit’s criteria and assessment instructions before making a decision.

Another member of the centre’s assessment team may check a sample of decisions. This helps the centre make sure that assessment decisions are fair and consistent. Pearson also carries out external standards verification for the qualification.

Where should I start?

For the official rules, use the Pearson BTEC International Level 2 Business specification and the current Pearson International Centre Guide to Internal Assessment. The unit’s own instructions may give extra rules, so check those too.

Check the criteria before the IV does.

checkb.tech reads learner evidence against the official Pearson criteria and reports every criterion as met, partly met or not met — with the evidence cited. It never awards a grade; the teacher stays the assessor.
