Pearson calculates the overall grade for BTEC International Level 2 Health and Social Care by weighting each unit grade by its guided learning hours. A 60 GLH unit carries twice the points weight of a 30 GLH unit. The total points are then compared with the threshold for the learner’s qualification size.

Point thresholds by size

QualificationMinimum points at each overall grade
Award, 120 GLHP 48 · M 66 · D 84 · D* 90
Certificate, 240 GLHPP 96 · MP 114 · MM 132 · DM 150 · DD 168 · D*D 174 · D*D* 180
Extended Certificate, 360 GLHPP 144 · MP 174 · MM 204 · DM 234 · DD 264 · D*D 270 · D*D* 276
Diploma, 480 GLHPP 192 · MP 234 · MM 276 · DM 318 · DD 360 · D*D 366 · D*D* 372

For example, a Pass in a 30 GLH unit is 3 × 4 points, or 12 points. A Pass in a 60 GLH unit is 6 × 4, or 24 points. The points total alone does not establish eligibility: the learner must complete a permitted unit combination and meet the Pass requirements for mandatory units. The specification also sets different allowances for unclassified optional units by size.

Use the right qualification table

Check the exact size before interpreting a learner’s total. The Award uses a single-letter grade scale, while the larger sizes use paired grades. Read the structure pages for the Award, Certificate, Extended Certificate and Diploma. Pearson may review thresholds, so use the current specification and website table when recording decisions.

Check the criteria before the IV does.

checkb.tech reads learner evidence against the official Pearson criteria and reports every criterion as met, partly met or not met — with the evidence cited. It never awards a grade; the teacher stays the assessor.
