How should teachers choose optional Creative Media units?
Start with the learner's intended programme and the size of qualification. The Award, Certificate and Extended Certificate have different unit counts, and not every unit can be used in every size. Pearson's specification is the authority for each permitted combination.
Then consider which optional units suit your centre's resources and the skills learners want to develop. Choices include areas such as video, audio podcast, photography, animation, web, advertising and digital games. A centre should also consider whether it can teach the specialist tools and provide enough time for learners to practise and produce the required evidence.
Do not choose from the unit titles alone. Read each unit's content, assessment criteria and Essential information for assignments section, then verify the combination in the specification structure table. Start with the Creative Media unit guide and course overview, and compare the Award, Certificate and Extended Certificate.
