The number of units depends on the qualification size. Pearson's Issue 1 specification lists two units for the Award, four for the Certificate and six for the Extended Certificate. Every unit is 60 guided learning hours (GLH).

  • Award: Unit 1 is mandatory; choose one optional unit.
  • Certificate: Unit 1 is mandatory; choose three optional units.
  • Extended Certificate: Units 1 and 12 are mandatory; choose four optional units.

Optional units let learners explore areas such as digital video, audio podcast, print, photography, animation, web, advertising and digital games production. Unit 12, Creative Media Production Project, is mandatory only in the Extended Certificate. Use Pearson's specification structure tables to confirm which units can be combined for a particular size.

For the qualification sizes, read the Award, Certificate and Extended Certificate guides. See also what GLH means, how to choose optional units and the course overview.

Check the criteria before the IV does.

checkb.tech reads learner evidence against the official Pearson criteria and reports every criterion as met, partly met or not met — with the evidence cited. It never awards a grade; the teacher stays the assessor.
